I don't think it's rude to ask the company whether they'll reimburse you for your company visit or not. I mean, if they don't, then you probably won't want to work with them anyway...

It's not a problem at all - don't call them demanding payment or what not - but it's perfectly fine to call HR and ask them whether you are going to be reimbursed for the trip, or if they will handle it. Honestly, if it's a pretty big company, or even a fairly small one, if they are requiring that you fly out to Chicago, they should pay for the flight at least - they can always fly you in morning and fly you out evening, saving them hotel expense. Give them a call and find out for sure.
