Is it worth following up about an interview?

I had an interview last Wednesday and have not heard back. I was shortlisted to the second round of interviews, thought it went well and the internship posting has been removed since i interviewed. It's with a F50 company so they have a very large HR department that has been very responsive. The application on their portal hasn't been updated and in the recruiter's emails it says to email them for updates on my status. When I asked about next steps in the interview the interviewer didn't give me a timeline but did say there would be a next round and that he could give me some advice depending on who I interviewed with. It it's only been a little over a week and I don't want to come off as desperate but I mean I kinda am. I guess the decision is set in stone anyways so is there any point in sending an email to HR abotu the status of my app ?
