Have you explored internal mobility at your bank? If so, why does it seem like it's not a promising prospect to you?

And what about ECM do you dislike?

Personal preference. Not sure if internal mobility is possible given that there's no opening

In ECM you are essentially pitching clients potential IPO deals. or secondary offerings, or whatever equity financing deals.

As a junior banker, even if you have family connections or whatever, it takes time for those big shots to take you seriously.

You work on market updates and pitches most of the time, which becomes tedious after a while. More importantly, you won't be learning anything new . That happens way faster than you think.

Persistency is Key

But being not sure, or there being no official opening, doesn't mean they won't make a spot for you. Maybe it's unlikely, but if they like you, maybe they'll accommodate you. Then again, if you don't want your current team to know that you want out, I get that you might be reluctant for that reason.

In a similar boat but for SA. Wondering how I voice my desire to switch to an M&A group without burning bridges with current team. Don't want to talk to HR behind their backs, but don't want to risk not getting return offer either.

Most of the time I see people say complete the 2year training contract then move internally as an Associate. Yes, it’s long, but it’s a process I hear works with very little resistance. All experience is good experience and that cap markets experience may help you a lot more going forward as an M&A banker.
