Is there a point in trying to lateral?!

My lease expires end of next month, at a T2 city trying to lateral to a different city (San Fran/NYC), can’t even get any interviews right now, been trying for 6 weeks. Should I give up? At a LMM bank with good deal experience with just over a year of exp. Questioning what to do. Anything helps!

Tough spot to lateral - even in a good market, T2 city trying to move to T1 and a LMM bank (assuming you're trying to upgrade to MM+) is a tough sell... let alone right now when these jobs can pick from a lot of great lateral candidates. Especially if you are in Houston which is harder coverage to lateral from than other T2 cities. Also you started too late 6 weeks is an unrealistically short time to expect a lateral process to play out

Assuming you have to make a lease decision in the next week or two? I doubt you'll have a signed offer by then unless you have upcoming superdays. The lateral process is very slow, assume 4-6 weeks for most processes especially in this market with many qualified candidates

I would resign the lease or go month to month but expecting to sign something with 6 weeks of trying is unlikely. More like 3 months

My advice - downgrade your expectations (i.e. if you want the T1 city, be okay with LMM/boutique) and network with any openings you see
