Is this Common???
I have been interviewing around for Financial Analyst positions and made it to the final round of interviews. I was told this by the VP of Finance during the interview on Tuesday, it was between me and 1 other candidate later that afternoon. Everything seemed to go very well, said he liked my enthusiam, what I was able to bring to the table etc. I then met with HR to go over pay, benefits, and various other things the company was offereing.
This is where I was told that it was a BRAND NEW position that the company was adding. They are only about 150 employees nation wide, about 6-7 cities, and 50ish employees in Philly. I was also told they were making their decision Wed and would be in contact Thurs.
Thurs I recieved an email from HR saying they were sorry but they decided to "put the position on HOLD for a month, but if I'm available then would love to keep in touch and talk more at that time." I was curious if this was common for new positions or this was their way of just looking for other candidates?? Also I was planning on emailing HR in a couple weeks to stay in their minds. Good idea??
Thanks in advace for the advice.

To be honest, 'put on hold' can mean anything - basically means 'we're not ready for you but we can't tell you why'.
Could be that they decided not go ahead with hiring but HR screwed up and proceeded with getting candidates and interviews. Could be that they decided to shift headcount from one team to another. Or as you say, it could be them buying time, or maybe they're considering an internal transfer. I don't think it being a new position has anything to do with it.
I'd definitely give HR a call in a few weeks (or even better, the VP if you can) to follow up. The VP might give you a better idea of what the actual story is - you're never going to get a proper explanation from HR.
Thanks for the outlooks, I appreciate and I will definatley keep in contact, the VP gave me his email and number so I will try him in a couple weeks. Hopefully it was a screw up internally and they are just waiting to add the postion and I'm still top of the list.
Thanks again
I doubt that you will be contacted again for the job.
