Is UNC Chapel Hill KF a Target?

Is UNC Chapel Hill Kenan-Flagler considered a target school? I know most BB banks recruit on campus, but most of the people get send to BAML or WF in Charlotte. How are the job placements to NY and particularly the elite BB banks such as GS, MS, and JPM. If someone is a sophomore at UNC KF, would a transfer into a school like Cornell Johnson or Columbia help break into IB?

UNC is a bit of an enigma when it comes to recruiting. It sends a solid amount of people to NY BB IB and Charlotte IB. A solid 30 to 40 get IB stints (my numbers may be off on this). I'm aware that Barclays, WF, and BAML have quite a few UNC alums who are supportive and helpful. However, (NY) consulting recruiting is fairly weak there (EDIT: recruiting for consulting in the South is decent), few IB boutiques come on campus (Guggenheim and a few southern banks), and there's not much in the way of HFs, PEs, VCs, Prop Trading firms, etc. recruiting. If you strike out on banking, you don't have many options outside of real estate in the South, Big 4 accounting, and some solid but unremarkable corporate positions (note that any of these opportunities are bad.)

I thought UNC was fairly strong with the big three in consulting? I know McKinsey, Bain, and BCG all come to campus and recruit. The McKinsey recruiter said almost 1/3 of the people working at the Atlanta office were from UNC. (The others mostly from Duke and UVA). That being said, I'm looking more towards the IB route with GS, JPM, or MS.

You're likely correct regarding consulting recruiting, I was referring more to NY consulting. Nevertheless, it's further evidence of the fact that if you go to UNC, there's a greater chance you'll stay in the South vs going to NY.
