Keeping in touch with head hunters?

Whilst in IB, I met a bunch of head hunters who showed me opportunities in PE/HF/Corp Dev/Other. I already secured a pre-mba buy-side role which I won't leave for at least a couple years, so I'm wondering:

1) Should I update headhunters about my new role, to update my profile?
2) Should I still ask for opportunities to be sent to me by e-mail?

How do you best keep in touch?

  1. Yes.
  2. Doesn't hurt but if you're really not planning on leaving for a couple of years I wouldn't want to waste their time unless they use an automated system of sending emails out with job notices.

I'd just reach out via email a couple of times per year with career updates and when you get closer to looking for a new position let them know.

At least that's advice for the US. I assume you're in the UK.

I'd assume he is US, there isn't the notion or pre-MBA positions over here. Just my view.

Interesting. Never heard of that before.

Interesting, what would the career updates entail or what kind of information would be helpful to them. Something along the lines of... I've moved into x industry team or advanced to a senior associate role?

Yes. Headhunters actually like this info because it's their job to know candidates out there regardless of the field-we use them all the time for portfolio companies and the more info they have on potential candidates the better and quicker they can place the appropriate candidate. And if you want to make a switch one day or if they find a position that fits you perfectly you may want to jump ship even though now you may think you want to stay for x number of years. Being on a headhunters list isn't a bad thing. At the very least it makes you feel good about yourself because someone wants to poach you for a job, and often a better position.
