Network with senior level people. Join a trade group or at least network with a local one. Meet with alumni for coffee. Read the WSJ daily, esp. the Money & Investing section.

 

Start trading in a personal account. If you don't have enough money to start one, start a paper account on investopedia. This will require you to research companies/commodities/etc. and follow the markets. Having unique views and being able to articulate and defend them will set you apart in the S&T interview process.
