"Leaking"/"Stealing" Job Leads - Thoughts

After not being able to get a job through OCR, me and a few colleagues have been cold emailing and cold calling local boutiques and funds to try to get something for the summer.

I am wondering, how common is it for colleagues to "steal" a lead? For example, a boutique tells me that I have an interview next week, I tell my friend (either voluntarily or he asks for it) and he realizes that they are hiring. How likely is he to call the same boutique to try to get an interview?

Also, each interview I am going to be up against 5-10 other people, so am I significantly increasing the competition (assume my friend and all the other applicants are of similar quality) by revealing that a lead exists? or should I keep my mouth shut till I have an offer?

Are you kidding me? Use common sense.

What's more important to you? Your friendship or the job? Also "Colleagues"- it sounds like you are a student...

Obviously you are making it harder by increasing the amount of applicants. If you add one more applicant to a pool of 10 people you are making it 10% harder.

"How likely is he to call the same boutique to try to get an interview?" That's the dumbest question ever. Fuck are we supposed to know how likely he is. Is he struggling for leads? Is it a position that interests him? Those are the dependent variables.

Not sure if you expected us to say "You will get the job no matter what, so go ahead tell your friend". Too many variables here at stake.
