Leaving an Internship Early?

Hi,

In the spring, I took an ophthalmology internship that would start in the fall. I was interested in the field and wanted to learn more. However, over the summer, I fell in love with scientific research and realized the ophthalmology field wasn't for me. However, because I was already committed to the internship, I decided to start as planned with the hope of networking and gaining valuable experimence. My coworkers are very kind and friendly, but my supervisor does not pay much attention to me. I find the work very monotonous, and I have found my academics are suffering due to the time commitment (about 4 hours a week, plus an hour commute), and I have been feeling sick from the stress this is causing. The position is supposed to be for two years, and I have been working for about 2 months. I dread coming into work. Are these good enough reasons to leave early? Of course, I plan to give plenty of notice of my intent to leave.

Thanks for any advice!
