LONDON. Final year applying for full time analyst position: Smart or catastrophic move?
Hi Everyone,
I'm going into my final year of studies in September at a top 10 UK non target uni. I am currently interning in big 4 consulting and will intern in a (relatively unknown) mid market m&a boutique this summer. To maximize my chances of getting top ibd jobs at BBs or elite boutiques I am considering applying for their summer internship programs (although they are for penultimate year students in theory). What do you think of this course of action? Will my application be accepted and will this give me a better chance? For your reference, I do not plan on doing a masters and this discussion is specific to the London offices. If anyone has some experience with this issue and could shed some light on it, I'd be very grateful!
Thanks!
First of, from your description I conclude that you have a solid yet not a need-to-interview-this-applicant profile. From what I know there are BBs (not GS/MS/JP) that would interview you for a summer internship even though you are a senior (various programs exist). However, I do believe this is not possible for GS/MS/JP or any elite boutique.
Luckily you can still boost your profile by: - Taking of a semester to do an extra internship, to complete a non-profit project or to travel the world. This way you are still eligible for summer internships. If you go the extra internship route, try to show this on your resume when you apply for summer internships - Enrolling for a master. If money is the problem think out of the box, not all good schools are expensive. Enjoy the EU while you can - Networking, surely a top 10 UK university has some alumni at good boutiques? Do not underestimate the networking at boutiques, they might even create you a position
