Long-term career advise - pursue my dream in banking
Hi guys,
This is really not a job search advice, since I just started in a new job 3 weeks ago - but more like how I should progress from here and end up in the job I really want to.
Quick about myself:
25 yo Master Degree in Finance from a small city from Denmark (Finished 1 month ago - around top 30%) Various part time/student jobs - e.g. one in retail banking, one as a SME Business consultant (volunteer) Internship in London - Financial Controlling at LVMH (6 months)
Before I graduated I had two job offers - FactSet as a Graduate Consultant in London. - A AON corp. subsidiary company based in Copenhagen (Pension broker company founded in 2008) as a Financial Analyst.
I (probably) also had the opportunity to get back to LVMH in various location around the world.
I took option two. So far everything is new and still yet hard to say if I like it in 6 months. As a newly founded company it has a lot of opportunities such as a lot of responsibility, nice young environment and a fine pay. As it is a subsidiary of AON it's some kind of well know as well.
BUT, I am really career orientated - but not totally sure what I want to do. I have a passion for banking (IB, IM, trading etc) but I also like business strategy/development kind of jobs as I am really interested in entrepreneurship.
As I were living in London for 6 months I found that I absolutely love the city and are ready to leave my homecountry (at least for some years) to follow my dream.
Right now as a "newbie" on the job market I don't know what to do, who to talk to and where to network etc.
I am working around 50 hours each week but are ready to work more if needed. I am also considering taking a CFA or just reading a bunch of books, taking personal development courses etc. to build up myself during my current job.
So, bottom line, to be a bit more specific.
Do you guys have any advices for my? What do you think about my current position when I want to work in e.g. IM later? How should I develop to get there? Any other suggestion you think will be more suitable for me when I like banking but also the entrepreneurial part and interacting with people?
Just to mention, beside work I am investinging and following the stock markets and like reading news about the world economy, derivatives and other "finance-aspects"
