Low GPA & Back Office Gig
Sorry if this has been answered before. Am currently a senior at a non-target state university (not on the radar of all BB) with a very low cum. gpa (IB but I understand that my chances of getting into banking is close to zero. I have decided to start with a back office position and later try to get into banking (hopefully after obtaining my MBA). I am wondering how hard it is to land a position in Ops with my current credentials? Also like to add that I have no relavant work experience in banking & my school's alumni is almost non-existent in the finance field. I just started applying to Ops via online at various BB and am considering all locations (including out of the U.S).
Any input would be appreciated.
Thanks
Going from BO to FO is tricky and given your low GPA, it won't help. Also, since you are a senior, I'm assuming you're looking for FT positions. Hate to break it to you but full-time recruitment was over by last November/December. The only thing that's going on recruiting-wise is for SA positions. And even with Ops, getting an interview if they don't target your school is tough because most BBs don't even look at the online applications. They typically recruit solely from campus recruitment.
Good luck though.
Honestly ops is really a dead end position and quite frankly i wouldn't waste the time gaining back office experience. If i were you look towards a masters get a 4.0 and lateral that to a FO position. Good luck man
With a sub-3.0 at a non-target you will be hard-pressed to land a BO gig.
As I see it ops would be less useful than doing something real that could position you for b-school. Start a business, do peace corps/teach for america, go in to big 4, or as dipset said get a masters and use that to get in to ib, though i dont know your shots at a good masters program with your grades.
