Masters of Finance

I'm currently a senior at a non-target school (think BU, Tulane) who has really solid internship experience but am striking out on the full-time market. I am now debating applying to masters of finance programs at schools like BC and Villanova. It would be inexpensive investment, and I'm not sure if it is worth it. Does anyone know of people who have been able to break into IB or ER with one of these programs?

There's a lot on WSO written about this. Essentially a few masters programs place very well into banking. Vandy and MIT are very strong with a long history of great placement, newer programs like Yale and Columbia have also shown promise. There are a few to avoid, notably Cornell and Georgetown, as they are more cash cows w/ limited OCR support.

Good luck!

Does anyone think the application process will be much more competitive this year than in the past since it seems like more people are interested in these programs?

You may want to consider an international MFin. Seems like banks in Europe have a more favourable view of Master's programs than those in the US. Personally, I did my MFin in Canada and the school/program has a decent number of IB and other strong exits, as well as strong OCR options. International students seemed to struggle with getting jobs, however, probably attributable to employer sponsorship issues.
