Meaningful Activities for Rising Freshman

I’m an admit of University of SoCal and I got about a 3-month gap between my HS graduation and college semester. I know it would be hard to get an intern or even an insight program at this moment. I just don’t want to waste this summer. To make my resume look better when I apply for an IB intern next summer, any recommendations?

PS: abroad programs are acceptable

I am still an university student but be sure to relax and have fun... Maybe study for the math class you are about to take.

Exactly this. Some of the stupidest/most fun things I've ever done were in the summer between high school and college. I would have missed out on them all if my summer job ate up all of my time.

Having an internship or some level of "finance" work at this juncture of your life won't do much in improving your chances of landing an SA position junior year. It is going to meaningless work anyways and the interviewer will know it. What matters most for the initial screening for the SA positions is your GPA. So don't F that up.

As everyone has said, enjoy this period in your life. You literally have nothing to stress about right now. If you do want to do something finance related, do some reading on the side of finance you would like to enter (i.e. IB, ER, etc.).

Enjoy your summer... seriously. I was just dreaming today of the days of being a lifeguard and not wearing long sleeves and pants.

Without a doubt, the period between high school and college was one of the best times of my life. Spend it making lasting memories with your friends and family. This may be the only summer for many years where you can just chill and relax. If you want, maybe try to set up coffee chats or phone calls with people in finance just so that you can get a better understanding of IB/S&T/etc and make connections early on. Regardless, make sure to have lots of fun!
