Mention senior contact during interview?

Had a senior MD (US head) put me on track of a regional office interview and ask me to keep him updated.

Shall I mention this MD during my interview if it comes up naturally (e.g. why do you want to work for XX bank) ?

I have known this senior for 2 years. He has been very personal and helpful and truly cares about my career development, which is one of the main reasons I want to join this bank. But I don't want to sound too cocky like I am using senior contact to pressure the interviewer.

I think my resume is good enough and I can nail most of the technicals and fits.

If it comes up naturally then mention it... but make sure you don't pull it up out of nowhere. I've dealt with this a number of times before and I think it's okay to mention it. There is a pretty good chance the person interviewing you is already going to know who referred you and so forth anyways... but there's a chance he doesn't and he probably should. If he is taken aback when you mention it he may bring it up with the SMD in an email or something (if he is high enough up to email someone like that), but if the SMD actually does know you and care about you, then he'll probably respond with something like "yeah, he's a great kid - right?"

from my experience, most longer interviews (upwards of 30 minutes) will present a good opportunity to fit this in naturally without seeming like a DB... if it's a shorter interview definetly don't just ram it up the persons throat unless they give you the proper opening
