Microsoft PM vs. MBB vs. Hedge Funds

Currently: undergraduate at a target school Wondering about recruiting for MBB consulting. Why: Even though I come from a tech background, I find that I'm generally more interested in strategic problems and in working on business cases.

Other factors: -Do not care a whole lot about work/life balance/don't mind long work hours -Trying to be in New York in the long run

If I do go MBB junior summer, placement is likely in the mid-west offices or overseas which means I would also be competing for MBA spots with those in Boston/NYC offices which, again, is disadvantageous?

Assuming getting an MBA imply quicker advancement to director positions compared to climbing from the bottom of the organization after graduation..

If so, would you stay at x junior-year internship for full-time and not recruit for full-time roles during senior year? Or, views on working for hedge funds (such as Investment Engineer at Bridgewater or Generalist Intern at D.E. Shaw) in general?

Right now, I was thinking of remaining in tech and going MSFT->MSFT/Google (full time) right after MBA. Thoughts on that?

Really would appreciate any inputs
