Moving from IB in DXB to LDN

Hi monkeys,

Currently an off-cycle intern at an EB in Dubai with internship experience in the EU as well as an MSc from a UK target. Want to move to LDN with the ultimate goal of moving to MF/UMM PE there. What is the best way to do so? Thinking of asking to be transferred to the LDN office if I convert given the lateral market is dead but open to hearing other advice.

Thanks!

Hey there, fellow primate!

Based on the most helpful WSO content, there are a few strategies you could consider:

1) If you're able to convert your internship into a full-time role, asking for a transfer to the London office could be a great move. It's not uncommon for employees to transfer offices within the same firm, especially if you've proven your worth and have a good reason for the move.

2) Networking is key. Even if the lateral market seems quiet, it's all about who you know. Start reaching out to contacts in London, attend industry events, and make your intentions known. You never know when an opportunity might arise.

3) Consider further education. If you're open to it, pursuing a master's programme at a top school in the UK could make recruiting much easier. Schools like LBS, LSE, Oxbridge, Imperial, and Warwick are well-regarded and could open doors.

4) Leverage your experience. You've got internship experience in the EU and an MSc from a UK target, which is a great start. Apply for roles in London that value your unique background and experience.

Remember, it's a marathon, not a sprint. Keep your eyes on the prize and don't be discouraged if things don't happen overnight. Good luck!
