My friend secured a graduate job but kept on going for interviews.
My friend secured a position at a bank's graduate program for next year and he has even signed the contract. The thing I found strange was that he kept on going for interviews at other banks. I asked him why and he said that even Lehman Brothers could collapse, who can ensure that the bank he signed a contract with, will still be around when he graduate. However I think the real reason is his ego and he wants to tell others things like oh, 3 banks offered me a job when I graduated.
Then I asked him if he got a better job offer than his current one, will he break that contract? He said of course. I was thinking isn't the industry small that your reputation will get ruined when the HR of various banks know about this?
What do you think? Is my friend right or am I right?
People renege all the time. Not a big deal.
We're all just mercenaries. I understand why people say not to renege, but if you have an offer at an ok bank an then get one at a better group/bank, do the right thing (for you). Banks have no loyalty and no problem cashiering you.
