Networking at Target Schools

I always see posts that say things like "If you go to a non-target, then you need to network to have a chance," but I never see mention to networking at target schools. Whenever I talk to someone from a non-target, they just dismiss my concerns because they just "know I'll make it." But I don't. I have not done much to network. Should I get on it immediately with the same strategies listed everywhere (i.e cold e-mailing, going to informational events at school and following up) or is there something more or obvious if you go to a target? I only ask because almost every time I read about networking, it is married to a statement about non-targets. I don't know how relevant it is, but I am interested in S&T.

yes same strategy. Also look on the alumni database or wherever alumni are listed and email/informational interview them. Look for alumni on linkedin too. They are the most helpful.

"Look, you're my best friend, so don't take this the wrong way. In twenty years, if you're still livin' here, comin' over to my house to watch the Patriots games, still workin' construction, I'll fuckin' kill you. That's not a threat, that's a fact.
