Networking Email

Greetings, I hope somebody will be able to give me an advice or better yet, a specific example. I'm first year undergraduate finance student and slowly trying to build my network. I was able to get an email address from a friend of a friend that works at a firm that does summer internships. I was about to start writing him an email and realized I have no idea what to write and how to write it not mentioning the fact that my resume only has retail experience. Maybe you guys can help ! I have a lot of customer service and sales/retail experience so how should I construct my email ? Does it have to be a cover letter or something more casual. Thank you.

Dear Mr/s Name of Contact,

Your name (school, major), how you got their contact info (friend of friend), why you are contacting person (learn about industry), and arrange time to call (you will call them).

Thank you, Your Name

Get to the point quickly. Nobody wants to randomly read two unsolicited paragraphs about why you are the perfect cadidate for their firm's summer internship
