Networking Email
Hi All, I wanted to post my networking email in preparation for FT apps to open in the summer. Please be as honest as possible and any help will be greatly appreciated. I also will not be attaching my resume. I also tweaked this email off a previous post so if it looks familiar that is why.
Hi John Doe,
My name is X. I am a rising senior finance student studying at X University with a very high interest in pursuing a career in investment banking. I found your information while searching for X college alumni in Investment Banking, and I have since taken the time to familiarize myself more with X firm.
Currently, I am working at XYZ firm as a Valuation intern, and at the start of June I will be working at XYZ firm as an Investment Banking Summer Analyst.
I understand that you must be very busy, but I was hoping I could have 15 minutes of your time over the phone sometime within the next few weeks to speak with you about your experience in Investment Banking and at XYZ firm. I am more than happy to accommodate whatever time works best with your schedule.
Thank you,

Too long. Throw your valuation and banking internship stuff in the first paragraph and cut the second half (I personally don’t care how much you know about my bank that’s why you’re networking)
got it, this makes sense. Should i delete this sentence completely then "I found your information while searching for X college alumni in Investment Banking, and I have since taken the time to familiarize myself more with X firm."?
I think this email is good -- just start blasting and follow-up with them after 2-3 weeks if they don't reply with a shorter one saying "hope all is well, just following up blah blah".
Personally, I don't really read networking emails on the first send (out of laziness like many others); but when someone has followed up and bumped it to me a bunch of times is when they catch my attention.
Hi John Doe,
Currently, I am working at XYZ firm as a Valuation intern, and at the start of June I will be working at XYZ firm as an Investment Banking Summer Analyst. My friend wants to sell his tech startup company with 300 million in revenues and I have been trying to advise him on it, but I could use some advice from someone more experienced. I found your name in the alumni thingy.

satirical much?
They aren't going to read all your bs, sometimes you just have to know how to talk to people.
listen bud help or don't, not doing any good by not saying anything useful.
You don't understand what I'm saying here. You can write a nice email, or actually now you can just have chatgpt write it, but if you want to stand out you should try to show how you can add value.
how am i going to add value in a networking email without sounding like a complete douche lol. I get what your saying, but that's just not helpful.
I have to tell you, you're attacking a post that is more helpful than you can understand. There are a million ways to add value. People will appreciate the effort, and it will show competence and understanding in a way that you can't see. It doesn't even have to be something so direct, just something you can do that offers a little value to them for talking to you. "I discovered you were on the board of directors of ABC non-profit. A few years ago that organization helped my brother in very difficult situation and it really changed his life. I appreciate the work you are doing, and I'd really like to thank you and talk about the impact ABC has had on me personally." I can't totally explain it, I will try to think about it more. But look, you have to understand that I am not an intern. This remark is from someone who receives these emails, and does the hiring, and I'm telling you what I like to see. A person that has good ideas and isn't afraid to put them in front of someone. Who knows how to get deals done. The douche cannot do it though, because the douche is too worried about, well what you're worried about.
