Networking email question...Opinions needed!

Hi guys/gals:

I have a question regarding email etiquette when networking. And I hope you could provide some opinions.advice as I am not quite sure what to do about this. I cold messaged someone on LinkedIn last week and he responded with his company email address to set up a call on Thursday. The call went ok and I was asked to write a followup email to "sell yourself" so he could forward my info to 2 people in his network who may be able to help me further.

So I wrote the email and sent to his **work email address** on Friday, entailing what my career goal is and thanked him for his time. Today I suddenly received a LinkedIn message, in response to my cold email, from him saying "Good luck with your search". I am clueless right now for the following reasons:

1. Did he see my Friday message at all? Even if that "sell yourself" email didn't work, why did he not directly respond to it so I at least know it has been read...

2. With this level of feedback, does it sound pushy to follow up and ask whether the Friday message has been seen and whether I may obtain further referral?

I hope I explained the situation clearly. Thanks for your time reading this!
