networking in wrong division of a company

Hey guys,

So I am currently interested in getting involved in the summer financial analyst program with Wells Fargo, which deals with commercial and corporate banking. My father has connections with a MD at WF Securities. Would it even be beneficial to try to network with him if I'm not even trying to get involved in IBD? I can't seem to think how it would be beneficial, except that he's based in NY, where I would be hoping to be involved with the program. But I would love some insight into the situation. Thanks

Most people know people in other divisions. Never a bad idea to try. If he's a friend of family, you can be pretty up front with your ambitions to work in divisions other than his I'd say (check with your dad to see how strong the relationship is)

Also, don't think of it as the 'wrong' division. Think of it as a 'different' division...
