Networking situation..

Hey guys,

Here is my situation. Non-target, good gpa, BO internship, senior. been networking since last year. Anyways, I talked with this one guy in March at a reputable MM firm, who used to be a MD there. However, he tried to get my into SA recruiting there, but they said that spots were already filled, but they thanked him for the "solid referral" (after reviewing my resume) and they set up a time to speak with me on the phone about FT.

Fast forward to a few weeks ago. In March, the MD had just recently left the firm, so he was still in touch with them. At this point, I hadn't talked to him since thanking him for trying to help before, and since he didn't live in NYC, I never got t o meet in person. So I instead did my "make the ask" email with the recruiter who he put me in touch with (the same person who I had talked to on the phone in March). The recruiter told me to go ahead and submit my resume, and said I would hear back later this fall.

Literally one day after he sent that email, I got another email saying that I had been rejected. I asked him why, and he said it was because I didn't have an IB internship previously. Should I try to contact that former MD again, and ask him for his advice? Or should I just move on, since there is probably nothing he can really do?

thanks

Thanks for the response. He's a former MD though (left about 8 months or so ago). Do you think I should have "made my ask" with instead? I didn't because I figured that's why he put me in touch with the recruiter initially. Although it looks like I got dinged since the recruiter probably dings everyone without IB internship experience before passing them on to the analysts for more detailed analysis.

Do you know why he left the firm? Has he moved to another firm? He most likely has contacts at other banks and might be willing to help you out. Good luck man.
