Networking with no experience?

I'm currently in a gap year between high school and nontarget university who is in desperate need of good resume material, like internships and the like. I created a LinkedIn account but I really don't know where and how to start networking with people. I have no experience in the field whatsoever, so how could I prove to a banker that I am serious about and committed to finance? Should I wait until I begin freshman year to look for internships? What can I do for the remainder of this gap year that would be constructive and help set me apart from other applicants in the future?

Thank you
