Your best bet is to cast a wide net and contact all previous managers for referrals to other companies or help getting in. Defense tends to be very insular so most people stay in defense but jump around the industry to different companies. This means they all have a lot of contact with other people in the industry. Also make sure to use any other contacts you have through school, family, etc.

But you'll definitely need a better explanation then "I needed time to chill after college" because college is basically chilling. So think on that for a bit.
