new monkey wants advise on JPM CDP move to MO

Hello all,

I wanted more insight before accepting a FT offer from JPM. I did the CDP (corporate development program) last year as a summer intern in DE doing operations in the IB.

I got lucky and landed on a group that interacts with FO (mostly) and MO teams in JPM's Prime Brokerage, however I do not see my self staying in DE (originally from Northern NJ) for longer than I have to.

If you wise monkeys can let me know if you /or any one you know have any experience of moving to middle office from a back office position or if I can make any other moves (i.e moving to a different bank).

Thanks!

Yea our MO/FO personnel are all NYC, CHI, or LDN based (we don't work with anyone in DE other than accounting), but we interact with them daily. Im constantly doing projects / request for MD or ED's for NY FO sales / product people.

I have an offer from BOA's FMAP program NYC (thought i didnt like the company much during interviews and interaction with HR / managers). I also have a great in at Barclay's in NY (my room mates mom is a VP in IB and has had people in her office look at my resume who expressed interest).

Any advice?

@ TheFullMonte.. I wasnt looking to make the move from BO to FO (especially hard from what i hear from DE). I was thinking of going to a MO position (in a year or two) and then perhaps getting my CFA and MSF or MBA to give me a better shot at IBD or Sales.

Knowing the firm, are there any pointers you could provide esp how you got into IBD.

Thanks agian!

Don't do a CFA to move into IBD or Sales... you couldn't do it on your time line anyway so it's kind of dumb as an option as it won't add value for what you want to do. An MSF on the other hand could be a valid option... There aren't really going to be a whole lot of pointers other than doing an MSF and networking like crazy, or sticking out a job for 3 years, applying to a good b-school, and coming out as an Associate. Regardless, networking is going to be critical.

The two posts above me are 100% correct.

Its a nice program. Nice people/job security/experience/etc. But it is extremely difficult to move to a FO position from there.

A little piece of advice: there is one Front Office group there. Its a group of 20 or so. PM me.
