nonprofit paid summer job?

Hi,

First time posting, great forum chalk full of info.

Quick background - going to start Ivey HBA1 this fall and looking to get into finance/consulting next summer or post-grad. Came from non-business background in sciences. Been trying to get a decent summer job but started late.

My question - Have a shot at a paid summer job as admin assistant for a NPO in health field. Basically helping around the office working with the director. Should I take the opportunity or try for something more commercial? Would retail be better (even in sales)?

Is this a good opportunity to show different interests or is it bad not to do something more finance related before HBA?

oldmansacksI see a lot of consultants with non-profit gigs filled in their resume. It's def. a good spot for a resume padder.

Second this. NGOs do not have strict hierarchies and after a while you can take initiative on some cool new projects that you can write about in your resume and talk about in interviews. If done well, you can beat out people with BB PWN or F500 marketing experience.
