Notorious Backchanneling Recruiters & Employers

In light of some recent posts, I think it would be useful to gather the names of recruiters who are notorious for backchanneling information about your interviews to your employers.

While this is more or less industry practice (albeit as part of final checks), the goal is to identify those who do this early on or who have gotten you or people you know well into trouble.

Ideally, we would have the industry (M&A/PE/trading/etc.) and geography in addition to the name of the recruiting outlet.

Edit: have expanded to include employers as mentioned in the comments

FWIW, I don’t think the back-channeling that others mentioned is from recruiters. It’s from investors leaking to their network (“going to go tell my friend that his associate is interviewing at my firm” situations).

What incentive would recruiters have? If they placed the original candidate, they want them to stay (to keep their placement commission). If they didn’t place them, they won’t even know the original firm very well. Doesn’t make much sense.

Edit: I’m referring to recruiting once already in PE, not back channeling to banking.

Gold Coast back-channelled another junior at my firm. Be very direct up front you do not want them to do this.

Would agree most back channeling is from people telling their friends in IB at their groups though.

Trust no one in this industry and try to keep as tight a seal as you can on your moves - information spreads extremely quickly among juniors as most are still very young and love gossip.
