Odd situation on Resume

I am interning at a PE firm, but the office houses a PE firm and a VC firm which are legally and operationally two different entities. Though I am technically "employed" by the PE firm I have also been working a lot for the VC firm. The VC firm CEO is also a partner of the PE firm, and the PE partners are also partners of the VC firm.

Is it possible to list both positions separately on my resume? Or should the responsibilities be under one position?

to avoid having to explain that in an interview, I'd really just list it as 1 firm and the put the appropriate deal experience (whether VC or PE) under that.

I think it depends on what would happen if your interviewer called each firm and asked to verify your employment. Did you file paperwork with both firms? If both gigs were paid, did you complete a W-2 (or equivalent) for each?

I’m standing on the edge of some crazy cliff. What I have to do, I have to catch everybody if they start to go over the cliff—I mean if they’re running and they don’t look where they’re going I have to come out from somewhere and catch them.

one dude. if you have to explain that it was essetntially the same firm in the interview = bad first impression!
