Offer a little bit too late... what to do
I just got an email back from this regional boutique about an opening on their team, but months after I contacted the MD.
The thing is though, I recently accepted a MM consulting role and start next week.
As someone who still wants to get into IB at some point, how do I reply and keep the connection so 1 yr+ from now I can try to make the move?
Same advice I give everyone: these firms view us as disposable objects, so that’s how we should view them. Renege on the consulting firm unless you think it will hurt you in the future.
I second this. If you know you would rather be at the bank and want to break into IB then you why spend a year doing something else if you have the opportunity to do IB now? Id renege and take the banking offer unless you have a specific reason you think you shouldn’t.
I just gave the MD the news, but his response basically sounded like I am open to reach back out at anytime and he can squeeze me in.
The only reason as to why I am hesitant is that for this consulting role I am relocating to a Tier 2 city from basically a nowhere, which is where the LMM IB is located. I'm betting my chances this new role and being in a better location will leverage my chances at a future MM or low tier BB.
I don't know, if I were you I would just do MM consulting for 1 year, and try to network your way into MM / BB IBD in 1 year as you mentioned.
Doing MM Consulting to Regional Boutique to BB IB , why do all that? Just go for the MM IBD / BB IBD / EB IBD right now.
