Offer rescinded because of economy

I just heard from the company I was set to work at after graduation that they are not able to offer me a spot any longer due to the economic downturn.

what should my path forward be? My goal is to go to the buyside long term but now that this IB offer has fallen through and I’m a senior in college what should I do?

I’m panicking a bit

I'm sorry to hear that.

My advice would be to start recruiting for other roles and see what offer(s) you can land. You have some time before graduation and spots for places open up during the off-cycle timeframe as well (I think on-cycle for other roles are still somewhat in process, but latter stage at this point).

Would recommend you give yourself a day or two to just step away and do anything to take your mind off things before hopping back into the job search process.

Chin up. It’s nothing personal, just business. Review the language in offer letter with a lawyer that will do it pro bono. You may be entitled to the signing bonus :)

You should also ask for it nicely since they screw you last minute. It’s nothing personal, just business.

Don’t spend too much time on all that though. Mass apply for financial services roles so you for sure have something lined up when you graduate. You can still continue to interview for IB, trust me it will not sabotage your chances especially since you seem to be a Dec grad. I say that with confidence, I was in your shoes many years ago. Exact same situation.
