Oh snap - my offer expired

I just called them to accept and HR was like, you know your offer expired on Tuesday right? I told her I didn't realize this sorry blah blah and I told the other firms I was not taking their offers so I have nowhere to go and she said I'll check with my team

I'm so screwed... what can I do??

Then why didn't you accept the offer? Hard to believe you weren't dicking the firm around hoping to land some better offers. You forgot? Come on, no one's that stupid WRT an offer they've been banking on accepting. Most people, in fact, try and get signed and returned as soon as possible. Hopefully, you're SOL. Snap!

I didn;t accept before because I was havign a tough time choosing between 2 companies, not like I was trying to get something "better". i just checked the contract my friend has because i expressed mailed mine already. there was no date on the contract, only said please let us know within 2 weeks. the contract was issued 2/7

please let me know i'm not crazy 7+14=21

If your offer letter said two weeks then you should get two weeks.

I'd follow up aggressively with HR on this.

 

Thanks. if you have been through the process, when they say you have 2 weeks, does that include mail time Meaning, do they have to have the signed contract in front of them at the end of the 2 weeks? or does a "I am accepting" call count too?

It's not always cut and dry. It actually took me longer than 2 weeks to make a decision. Also, after offers, you have to attend sell-days, speak with different people, potentially work out agreements w/ different banks, etc.

 

i know people who spent months deciding what offer they wanted FT. it seems like more often than not, its not cut and dry.

I agree that FT can take a while to figure out. I know it's not cut and dry either, everybody has different considerations in their own life.

As for a summer decision between two banks? Even if you procrastinate over things (like me), deciding on something important like this should be first priority. Sit down and do whatever is necessary to make a decision. Maybe its just me, but when handling offers in the past, I didn't wait until the last possible day to call and accept.

How long did you guys take to accept a SA or FT offer?

 

Well I got an email from the HR lady a couple of days later and said thanks, we got your offer!

and then yesterday night at 4:50 pm I get an email from the "XX Recruitment Team" that said thanks for applying, but you're rejected.

Is this is a system generated response? I'm in class now, so can't call them but I will. Man I'm so pissed about this

 

Your offer did not expire Tuesday. If you let them walk on you like this and don't push back, you're weak.

have you e-mailed the actual people that interviewed you? the VPs, associates, MDs. because they were the ones who decided to give you the offer in the first place, not the HR people. The HR was only there to schedule the interviews, not to make decisions on offers. If the MDs and VPs really wanted you, and they probably do since they did give you an offer, then you should shoot them an e-mail about this situation and they will deal with HR

 

I have a hard time believing this is true. I believed it at first, but to think the OP has gone nearly an entire week without having it resolved, be it getting the job or not, I think is a little unbelievable.

If this is true... surely you must have gotten business cards? Just call or email someone. The longer you let it linger the more likely it is that they tapped into an alternate candidate who accepted the offer or they just forgot about you and will lose interest in helping you out of this situation. You've already got the odds stacked against you since its been almost a week since they told you the offer expired and you haven't aggressively followed up.

 

This thread has really sparked my interest. It's strange the OP received a rejection email if the bank wanted to hire him. If this is true and he didn't fix the problem immediately, I think my original reaction was correct: this guy just isn't getting things done. Ratatouille- did you really get the job? why didn't you call anybody to fix the problem immediately? do you think you deserve a second chance if you can't make a phone call?
