PE Recruiting During Internship

I am interning at a top bb this summer and am interested in PE. I am currently heavily recruiting for the MF PE analyst programs (specifically targeting KKR/BX/Vista/Silver lake) but I am having a hard time thinking about the balance between grinding for my current internship or grinding for the PE recruiting. I go to one of the ivy targets so I don't have a background in finance so I have a ton of prep to do but am unsure whether it is even worth it if it takes away my time at my current internship. Any advice?

Realistically the MF Pe programs only take a few analysts each class so I wouldn’t put all of your eggs in that basket and tank your internship. Even being at a top bb and a target it will be an uphill battle. I would recommend you 100% guarantee you get a return offer and grind for the PE jobs on the side. The amount of effort you can put in will be up to you but understand the competitiveness of the programs and the importance of getting your return offer. Also any prep you do now will just benefit you for on cycle so not bad to start doing work anyways

Have a friend who has a similar background and experience who placed at one of the 4 you listed. This man absolutely grinded during his internship, would do networking calls during his lunch break and then got off work at 1am and then crank on paper lbos/other technicals until 3am

what was his background like? EB/top BB summer, target, high GPA, diversity?

Dont want to give away too much of his identity, target + top bb
