Physical Location? For FT Recruitment?

Does it really matter where you are for full time recruitment? From what I know, recruitment season is during the fall semester. Banks might visit your school to give info session and pick some resumes. If you impressed them, you gain the edge there. Most people just apply online through the company's website or the school career portal. Most company would just tell you to apply online anyways.

So my question is: If I am studying abroad during that semester, I would be fine if I just apply online? I don't know how the interviewing process is going to work but I think that happens after the fall semester in January?

Therefore, if I network well enough for the next few years, while I am studying abroad, I could tell the the people working at those companies to bat for me and not lose any advantage?
