Private Equity Background Check - DUI

Hi Everyone,

I was hoping to pick your collective brains on how Private Equity shops look at a DUI from a hiring perspective. I am currently still an analyst, but have a job lined up for next summer. The DUI wasn't on my record when I interviewed, but it will be by the time next summer rolls around (I haven't gone to court yet, but I expect to soon). My lawyer says the worst I will get is a misdemeanor (no one was injured and there was no property damage). Do any of you have data points on whether a PE firm will rescind an offer because of a DUI? I've read some of the other threads regarding DUIs and hiring, but a lot of them seem geared to BBs and I was wondering if PE firms are more unforgiving. Regardless, I plan on being honest and upfront about what happened, but I just want to go in with some knowledge of what might've happened with other people. Also, do you guys recommend I bring it up with HR right after my court stuff is finished or right before the shop runs my background check (likely sometime next May). And, should I talk to one of the investment professionals first? As always, your perspectives are most appreciated.

Put it on the application when it asks. Other than that, don't mention it unless they ask you specifically about it. If it's a first offense, it probably won't be that bad. Usually with those types of things, they look for patterns of consistency, like if you've got a history of alcohol related problems.
