Public Finance Associate looking to make a change

I've been working for a small public finance advisory firm in NY for the past four years and lately I've been thinking about making a change. I've gained a tremendous amount of experience structuring debt offerings for municipalities and advising our clients through the process but I don't know if I want to work in public finance for the rest of my career. I would like to move into investment banking, my only issue is that I don't know how easy it would be to transition from public finance into investment banking. Does anyone think there may be a specific investment banking group that I should focus my attention towards? I know that public finance and corporate finance don't necessarily blend together, but since I have experience structuring debt instruments I would think that it could be helpful in some market. Any advice would be very helpful.

I work in a public finance group at a rating agency. Our group also covers infrastructure and public-private-partnerships (P3s) deals/transactions globally. I would advise that you look into a gig that deals with infra, P3 or project finance, as the structuring experience you have would be most pertinent in such an environment. I think the sell would be easy to make, and considering that these roles involve public sector counterparties, your experience dealing with such players will be of benefit. Additionally, considering the infrastructure backlog in the US, and P3s as an option to address it, I think this kind of banking will be one that grows versus other IB groups that are scaling back in the current environment. Feel free to get in touch, we can discuss further.
