Reaching out to Alum during interview process?
Had a first round interview yesterday for a summer IB internship. I thought it went fairly well, but you can never really tell with these things. Later on I realized a senior MD in the group is a fellow alum. Any benefit to reaching out to her at this moment? I figure I will eventually speak to her if I make it to the later rounds, but it might be better to be proactive and reach out to her now to ensure I reach the later rounds. Thoughts?
Absolutely worth reaching out now! The earlier you establish genuine connections with alumni, the more likely they’ll be able to give you constructive guidance on what each round interview might be looking for + be able to push your resume through. For future, I’d ideally recommend reaching out even before the first interview itself, i.e. when you’re applying for the role, as it gives you increased an increased likelihood of developing that relationship and receiving help. Best wishes!
