reaching out to HR now after dinged from SA final round

Had a final round for S&T SA with a BB back in January but eventually got dinged. From my contact I was able to find out that I was right on the cut-off between people who got the offers and people who did not (there was no waitlist). out of the two people only one took the offer btw.

i've been cold calling/reaching out to alums but haven't had much success yet so i was thinking about reaching out to the firms i had final rounds with again. how should i reach out to the HR to take a last shot and offer my service if due to any circumstances someone drops out? i wouldnt mind not getting paid but i heard that BBs usually dont really do that.

any help would be appreciated!

HR is useless - they usually won't respond, especially if you've been dinged. If they do respond, it will be with a generic thank you and try again later type of message - polite, but not helpful.

You are much better off reaching out to your interviews and touching base with them again - keep the convo going and eventually work your way into checking for unpaid things or keeping an eye out during next internship season.

PM me if you have other questions.
