Recruiting for PE as 3rd Year IB Analyst -- Doable?
I've heard that PE firms like recruiting IB analysts, but not IB associates. If you're unsure if you want to make the career move to IB, is it feasible to extend your decision by agreeing to be a third year analyst at some IB? Or are you still seen as "too old" by many PE firms?
You're fine. If anything, you'll get points for being thoughtful instead of trying to jump out of IB after 3 months.
That’s actually a pretty interesting angle to look at it — wanted to do my due diligence, make sure it was the right fit for me.
Definitely very doable, have seen 3rd years place very well (MFs included) at my EB
Great, thanks for response. And do you know if they did their recruiting sort of "on-cycle" at the beginning of the fall? Or was it off-cycle?
Anecdotally more so off-cycle but believe there is a large enough sample size for on-cycle too (though more so for analysts who didn't already go through a full recruiting cycle and come up empty)
Additionally, you will be considerably more prepared when it comes to technicals if you use the two years to network and prepare
Analysts who waited until after their first year to recruit have consistently placed at stronger shops than those who recruit in their first year from my bank (blair/hL/hw). They have better deal experience, are more mature, and can speak better to what they want and why they want it.
Excellent. Good to know, thanks.
