Recruiting to UK Jobs as an American
L/s I am a 2025 Grad with prior BB internship experience in NYC. As it stands though, and after reflecting upon some key things in my life, I am certain I want to start my career in Europe. Ideally, I'd like to settle down and start my career in either London or Madrid. How would I go abroad recruiting into the EU/UK despite only having US citizenship. I have lots of experience in various areas of markets, but particularly fixed income and commodities. Ideally I'd love to be in Fixed Income Asset Management or Fixed income research but am open to basically anything, im more concerned with starting my career abroad
Some background
-2025 grad from semi-target
-3.85 GPA
-3 different internships in various fo/consulting roles
-dual proficiency in english and spanish
I'd appreciate any advice
It's pretty tough to get top opps in London without being from a US target. But if you insist...
Really the grand method is to just apply. There's not as much "networking" focus in London. I've asked a lot of people who got in from weird angles in London how they got in and they all just say they randomly sent off an application and it got picked up. No trickery. The company will sponsor or it won't. And for what it's worth, in the eyes of UK immigration, you are seen as no different than someone from France or Germany or any other EU nation.
If you can code, that's a very valuable (almost necessary) tool for FIR/FIAM right now.
Mind if I PM you?
Go for it
dude NYC is so much better than London
