Recruiting with only three classes?

I’m a rising sophomore at a top target school with an internship and a diversity program in finance this summer. In this past year (freshman), I did okay in the fall (3.3 GPA), and was about to get a 4.0 in the spring when obviously everyone was sent home.

My school also made it mandatory Pass/Fail, meaning I had no further chance to raise my GPA. Now, I’m going into sophomore year with only three graded classes contributing to my GPA (1 out of my 4 classes in fall was pass/fail). How should I go about recruiting and explain this in the coming year before I have an updated GPA (December)?

I'd like a little more context. You only took 4 classes in the fall and I don't get why your school would have required it pass/fail (was it brown lol). On the other hand, a lot of places require either a 3.2 or a 3.5. It's too late to get summer classes so I would leverage OCR. They should understand your dilemma and for the 3.2 requirements it shouldn't be too hard to sneak an interview. Best of luck.

Not OP but what they're saying is, they took 4 classes in fall (chose to do one pass/fail -- likely Yale or Brown if I had to guess), got a 3.3 GPA (basically 2 Bs and an A). Then, in the spring, they were gonna get a 4.0, but several Ivies and elite schools implemented mandatory or universal pass/fail grading for classes. Ergo, this person is a rising sophomore who has taken 3 classes for a grade.

I understood OPs post, I just never understood the why of everything. First, I've never heard of anyone only taking 4 classes Freshman fall (I've heard of less obviously but that's because they were working). And I don't understand why Ivies would require it. My university made it optional and extended the date but I don't understand why it would be mandatory even if the classes are virtual.

Can't delete this so I'm just going to say, I was never confused that they required P/F. I was confused as to WHY. What reasoning? At least answer me that if you guys are just going to keep throwing MS

Also not OP but 4 classes is the norm for Yale in the first year fall. And, Ivies mandated pass/fail for all classes -- whether or not you understand it, that's what happened. He probably goes to Yale, although I've heard Harvard does average 4 in the first semester but its rarer for them to take a pass/fail class in their first semester.
