Do you already know someone in the NY office who could give you a referral? It really depends on who the person giving you the referral knows in the London office. I was recruiting for MBB in London and got a referral from a partner in the NY office through family connections. I don't think it did much since I ended up getting rejected by that firm even though I got an offer from a different MBB.
