Renege on internship offer?
Earlier this semester, I sent out a ton of internship applications as well as a couple hail-mary transfer apps for top schools with 6 % acceptance rates.
A week and a half ago, I accepted a Winternship (I have a lot of A P credit) so I can afford to skip a semester of classes) for a mid/back-office role at a well-respected fund. However, I just got accepted to one of those transfer schools for next Spring. It's a top school worldwide, with one of the strongest brands you'll get. It would be stupid to not renege on the winternship and go to the target school right? Would I tell the firm I am transferring or should I just say it was due to personal reasons or some bs?
Take the transfer, absolutely no question.
I'm assuming from your wording that it's HYPSM or that ballpark. I don't know what your current school is like, but the difference in OCR presence on its own will make transferring better internship-wise, not to mention the mountain of other benefits you'll accrue over the course of your lifetime from having graduated from a top-notch school.
Transfer and don't look back
