I'm doing the Facebook University program this summer and can say that they really care about your essay and extracurriculars so I think you'll be fine whichever option you choose for yourself this summer.

Haven't heard of inroads, but if it's similar to SEO, a lot of people fight hard internally to recruit more candidates from these programs over more traditional channels. When one of those candidates renegs, it's not only frustrating for the people that fought for you, but it also gets used as justification not to go back to that program next year.

You were given an opportunity that most people don't have access to. Don't throw it away.
