Resume Q for S7, S66 holder, currently finance reporter

Hi all. New chimp here. I recently convinced a friend who owns an Ameriprise franchise to sponsor me for my Series 7 and 66 licenses. I passed them both in March. I left Ameriprise cuz it is commission only. Anyway, Im a finance reporter. I covered Brazil for WSJ from 2004 to Mar. 2010 in Sao Paulo. I currently write for Forbes covering the BRIC markets and run their new Global Pulse int'l investor newsletter. Mentors I know in the biz tell me that I'd fit on the portfolio product development and marketing side of things, bringing PM and SA ideas to clients, either institutionals or HNWI. Still, my CV is all journalism. Yes, its finance journalism, but I dont have an MBA, nor do I want one (late 30s now). Any advice? Not sure yet I can sell myself on having my licenses and being an "expert" on emerging markets. Wondering if I should just go to the head hunters and introduce myself to them, see what they can do.

I don't know about IBD given how structured it is; likely it would be a long-shot.

I'd recommend emphasizing your BRIC expertise rather than your journalism expertise. I could see you being of interest to perhaps a LatAm trading desk or some type of ER group covering Brazilian companies.

Obviously having something like your CFA would be ideal to help you with your transition, but putting those Series exams on your resume + the WSJ stuff does show some interest. Do you happen to speak a foreign language? Anyway I'd find some headhunters who find people for BRIC type openings and work with them.
