Risk reporting?

Hi,
Could anyone help me get an understanding of what a role in risk reporting involves?
I'm believed to understand it is in the finance devision of a bank?

Also, how does the reputation and work compare to that of other risk departments such as credit or market risk?

Risk reporting can be under different groups depending on the bank but they're usually grouped with Audit/Compliance/Operations. Pretty much a back office function.

I would say that both Credit and Market Risk have better reputations across the board. Those two are really closer to the product in MO. A summer doing risk reporting at a BB could set you up for a MO/BO role at an AM.

Wow, that sounds a bit crappy. My choices this summer are pretty much that or nothing so far. You think it would actually harm my potential going forward? Remember, i'm a 1st year (out of 3) and everyone does summer internships in their 2nd. So i will be applying again to summer internships in my 2nd yr.

Other first years will pretty much be doing ad-hoc stuff like 2 weeks at a random hedge fund, a few weeks at their dad's accounting practice or a few weeks at a AM place. You actually think this would be seen negatively vs those?

Also, do you have any knowledge of the role itself? To my understanding it is to do with repairing stress tests, VaR and other stuff.
