SA 2021 UK Bank Account

Hi everyone,

I am from continental Europe and will be starting as an SA at a BB in LDN this summer. My bank has told me to get a UK bank account to receive my salary. However, I encountered a few difficulties since few UK banks give out accounts to non-UK residents and the previously default Revolut option does not seem to work anymore. I applied for an account at HSBC, which still does that, but due to Brexit mail literally takes months to get from continental Europe to the UK, so they probably already forgot I sent them my identification documents, and customer service is useless.

Anyway, how did you guys solve this problem? I could open an account once I am in the UK, but then I won't get paid in time.

Thanks in advance!

With Revolut, if you add a GBP account, you should have your sort code and account number, which should be considered UK account and hence enough to receive salary.

Can you provide more information about the HSBC account, in particular:

1) Which account did you apply to?

2) Which documents did they ask for?

3) Did they require you to be present in the UK at some point (so, does that account work also for people starting remote from other countries their jobs)?

Many thanks

Sure.

1) I applied for the standard bank account (and was preliminarily approved, so it works).
2) They wanted me to send in a proof of identity and of address. E.g. a copy of my ID that has to be certified by a banker (in my locale), an attorney, notary, or the like.
3) I do not think that this works if you do not come to the UK at some point because the reason I was able to apply was because I indicated that I will relocate to the UK as a reason for the bank account.
