SA networking trip in Mid-January
From a non target -
Already went once in the summer and once in the fall. I'm really trying to do as much as I can to land a 1st round interview.
I know some of the 1st round interviews and even superdays will have passed by the middle of January, but would it still be worth it to fly back up and touch base with your contacts and keep meeting more people? I'll make sure my story is very polished and be ready for any technicals.
I mean... god invented telephones. I've seen people doing this. In the end it's persistence that matters more than intimate contact.
Agreed. Better to touch base now via phone than go in person in January (getting pretty late for networking...) I also don't think coming in person helps vs just having a good phone call, but thats just my opinion
Coming in person definitely helps. But going in mid-Jan won't help at all, imo.
Would going in person help at places with later deadlines? Especially places which I did not focus on earlier and have better contacts at now (most of whom I have not met in person)?
You should definitely focus on places with later deadlines. Even so, it's very late. Just get in touch with them now, talk to them over the phone or at least exchange emails, then meet with them again in Jan.
How successful have your past two networking trips been? Were you chatting for 30 mins in Starbucks or were you spending time with them in the office, being given advice about interviewing, being introduced to other ppl, etc.? Also, are your contacts alumnis? I've done a networking trip before and was surprised with the amount of consideration my contacts gave me. However, they were also alumni and I met them on campus.
Last two trips have been a blend of both office visits and coffee sit downs. Some of them lead to more contacts and some of them weren't as fruitful, but regardless I'm still keeping in touch with almost all of these. it's also a blend of alumni and cold leads (now warm).
Since I've been introduced - via email and phone - to more bankers since my last trip, I've been wanting to go back and meet the new group and continue to speak with the bankers I most closely mesh with. Also, some places have later deadlines, which is why I think this trip will be beneficial.
Thanks for the insight.
